It's the Handweavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild of Tasmania book called Textile Journeys.
The book is a limited edition & not easily available in stores. I received a copy of this book for my birthday & thought that it was such a great resource, I hunted one out (took me 6 stores to find it!!) & purchased one for you.
It has the history of the Tasmanian guild, stories, hints, tips, techniques & patterns.
It shows you all you need to know about fleece, spinning, weaving, dying, knitting etc etc.
It's like having your own instructor in your book shelf!

The weather? hmmm at the moment Melbourne is having silly weather hot yesterday, cold and raining today. But that's a boring comment! haven't had lunch yet lol and no haven't added myself to the directory but will. What else to comment? I'm having a coffee! yay lol

My hubby is out of town and I'm caught upmwith work, so I've found myself with some time to spend however I'd like for the first time in a while, and it has got me quite tied up in knots. There are so many things that I'd like to do that I don't know where to begin! Do I nap, sew, read, catch up on McLeod's Daughters? Decisions, decisions!

ReplyDeleteHave once tried my hand at spinning at a demonstration. I was in a room full of older ladies and when we were asked if anyone would like a go my hand shot up, despite having a baby with me! The ladies were lovely, most of them were Grandmothers, and played with Cohen while I tried spinning with their encouragement. :)
Hi Rie, a beautiful book, We went out for one night and had dinner in a village about 80 km from here. A real French dinner, we could hardly walk after....... It was delicious,. I also participate in the Sew-mama-sew giveaway

I've been making pinecone balls today, though when I posted them on Craftster.org someone told me they look like artichoke balls! They are amusing and easy and I have yet to make a scrappy one for some reason. What is wrong with me?

That's a terrific prize. I just recently went a hunting for a book that was published in the 70s about fingerweaving. I finally found it! Score! Isn't it awesome when you go hunting for just the right book and are able to find it?

Great book, I really want to get into fiber dying. I pretty much slept all day. And I really slept soundly, the phone was not a foot away from my ear and it rang 4 times and I never heard it!!

I choose to tell you about lunch. I just started a new job at a university, managing a learning center. And today the dept head took us all out to lunch at a wonderful noodle house. I got to have tasty hot Pho while surrounded by great team members, interesting people, all hard workers who respect my work! What a great feeling that was.

Oh my, that must be an awesome book! I can't remember when or how my interest in these things started, but I've long been fascinated by the fact that a bunch of yarns/threads combined in such and such way actually hold together... :-)

ReplyDeleteI have a next door neighbor (or maybe downstairs neighbor) who cooks food with way too much onion in it. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The smell seeps into my apartment and permeates every single nook and cranny in my living space. It makes me want to vomit. Upside: Lack of appetite is an awesome way to lose weight (insert sarcasm here).

ReplyDeleteSix stores to find another copy!!! That's how you tell a book is worth reading. And I am sure you enjoyed prowling through those book stores as well - admit it. My cousin lives up The Blue Mountains and use to have her own Alpacas and the local craft ladies use to spin it up for making brilliant one-off designs. Too hot up here in Sunny Qld for that - all we have are toads!!! Very generous give-away indeed. Merry Christmas from the hot, humid, north...
