It's the Handweavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild of Tasmania book called Textile Journeys.
The book is a limited edition & not easily available in stores. I received a copy of this book for my birthday & thought that it was such a great resource, I hunted one out (took me 6 stores to find it!!) & purchased one for you.
It has the history of the Tasmanian guild, stories, hints, tips, techniques & patterns.
It shows you all you need to know about fleece, spinning, weaving, dying, knitting etc etc.
It's like having your own instructor in your book shelf!
All you have to do is leave a comment, remembering to leave a way for me to contact you in case you are the winner!
What to comment on?? You can comment on anything, maybe you'd like to comment on the Universal Craft Blog Directory - have you added your blog to it - yes no? Maybe you'd like to tell me about the weather? Or maybe you'd just like to tell me about your lunch!
Entries close 16th December 2011.
International entries welcome.
Good luck!
I'm joining in with the Giveaway Day with Sew Mama Sew!

ReplyDeleteSounds like a fascinating book! How's your weekend been? My hubby is out of town and I'm caught upmwith work, so I've found myself with some time to spend however I'd like for the first time in a while, and it has got me quite tied up in knots. There are so many things that I'd like to do that I don't know where to begin! Do I nap, sew, read, catch up on McLeod's Daughters? Decisions, decisions!
ReplyDeleteOh I so want this book!!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I hope you're loving your new house. The book looks great - thanks for your generosity.
ReplyDeleteOoh, someone buys you great birthday presents! Would love to share in their good taste and learn more about yarn and spinning while I'm at it.
ReplyDeleteHave once tried my hand at spinning at a demonstration. I was in a room full of older ladies and when we were asked if anyone would like a go my hand shot up, despite having a baby with me! The ladies were lovely, most of them were Grandmothers, and played with Cohen while I tried spinning with their encouragement. :)

I've been making pinecone balls today, though when I posted them on Craftster.org someone told me they look like artichoke balls! They are amusing and easy and I have yet to make a scrappy one for some reason. What is wrong with me?
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an amazing book!!

That's a terrific prize. I just recently went a hunting for a book that was published in the 70s about fingerweaving. I finally found it! Score! Isn't it awesome when you go hunting for just the right book and are able to find it?
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway, thanks! Today was grey and cloudy, but I had some awesome potato leek soup and chocolate chip cookies for lunch, so that made up for the icky weather!

This looks like a fascinating book!
ReplyDeleteI can't even tell you what the weather's like lately - my office has no windows. I was told it was a nice day, although a bit chilly.
Great book, I really want to get into fiber dying. I pretty much slept all day. And I really slept soundly, the phone was not a foot away from my ear and it rang 4 times and I never heard it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!

I choose to tell you about lunch. I just started a new job at a university, managing a learning center. And today the dept head took us all out to lunch at a wonderful noodle house. I got to have tasty hot Pho while surrounded by great team members, interesting people, all hard workers who respect my work! What a great feeling that was.

Oh my, that must be an awesome book! I can't remember when or how my interest in these things started, but I've long been fascinated by the fact that a bunch of yarns/threads combined in such and such way actually hold together... :-)

This book looks FAAAAAABULOUS! I'm going to random comment:
ReplyDeleteI have a next door neighbor (or maybe downstairs neighbor) who cooks food with way too much onion in it. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The smell seeps into my apartment and permeates every single nook and cranny in my living space. It makes me want to vomit. Upside: Lack of appetite is an awesome way to lose weight (insert sarcasm here).
Wow the book looks fantastic - what a generous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThe weather at the moment is windy and I went out to lunch today with friends - and that wasn't windy.
That book looks fantastic! Thanks for hosting a giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI had leftover almond crusted chicken - it was actual quite tasty!
jessie4ann(at)gmail(dot)com
The book looks awesome. This is something I've always wanted to try.
ReplyDeleteAnd one of my favorite things to do over the holidays is attending the grade school Christmas program. I especially love watching the younger kids as they share their excitement about Christmas.
rsgrandinetti@yahoo(DOT)com
It's 11:10 pm here in TN and Hubby WILL NOT go to bed so I can finish knitting his Christmas scarf! Hope he toddles off soon as my eyes are starting to close! Lovely looking book, BTW. Cheers!

Looks like a fab book! I have joined the directory, and publicised it on my blog! I haven't been round to check everyone out yet though as I have a ton of blogs bookmarked already that I have to get through first!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing looking book. I like to dye yarn but I'm really looking forward to dyeing fleece, and to spinning when my littles are big enough to leave the wheel alone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your generous giveaway Rie. Isn't it great when you find a treasure that you have been searching for everywhere... I'm a great book person, but can't really appreciate ebooks. Having been a self-taught spinner for many years I think this book might just have some secrets to share! The images are certainly inviting.

That book looks fascinating. I'm so impressed reading on these blog giveaways about people who actually spin yarn from their own animals. So beyond me. I'd love to learn about it though.
ReplyDeleteAs a spinner, that looks like a great book for my library! Thanks for the chance. The weather in the northeast USA was cold today with some possible snow flurries coming overnight.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a really beautiful book, and super detailed!
ReplyDeleteSo you want to know about my lunch? My lunch was dull as sticks - I had a salad today, with roasted corn and black beans. But yesterday, yesterday I had roasted beets! And they were delicious. Yum.

Ooh, I spin, but not well yet; I have materials for dyeing, but haven't tried it; and my mother weaves a lot (I do a little, but she just loves it). We could use that! :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great book to have. I like to knit and crochet and I'm sure it would be very helpful!

ReplyDeleteWhoa, this book seems amazing. I've just recently been introduced to the wider world of textile art and am administrator of a college art club so this sounds so useful!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great book.

lovely
ReplyDeleteThe book looks amazing! The weather today here is cold but clear. Nice and sunny!
ReplyDeleteSix stores to find another copy!!! That's how you tell a book is worth reading. And I am sure you enjoyed prowling through those book stores as well - admit it. My cousin lives up The Blue Mountains and use to have her own Alpacas and the local craft ladies use to spin it up for making brilliant one-off designs. Too hot up here in Sunny Qld for that - all we have are toads!!! Very generous give-away indeed. Merry Christmas from the hot, humid, north...
